Class 8's amazing Topic work on Stone Age weapons
Date: 20th Nov 2020 @ 4:42pm
Class 8 have loved learning about Stone Age weapons. The children found out what they used to make the weapons and the different weapons for the different jobs. They worked in teams of 2 to make their own spear, then acted out being hunter gathers like in the Stone Age times. The children really took on the role as you can see from the photographs. Super stars!
Also this week Class 8 listened to Mr Padley's assembly on Anti-bullying. Then we had a PSHE lesson where we talked about the different kinds of bullying and what they should do if they were being bullied or ever saw someone else being bullied. Class 8 then made a poster with the message to everyone young and old. Let's stand together and be United Against Bullying.
Another fabulous week Class 8 with your work in school and at home. Well done!
Class 8's learning the week beginning 9th November
Date: 13th Nov 2020 @ 2:15pm
This week Class 8 have been linking their English lessons to their Topic work on the Stone Age. We used props and hooks like a woolly mammoth fur, a camp fire, food, spears, stones for making tools and wild animal footprints. The children acted out what life would be like during the Stone Age times and we brought our story of The Stone Age Boy to life.
In Science we are studing Light and Class 8 made puppets and used torches to make shadows. They also changed the size and shape of the shadows too. I'm sure your child would love to tell you all about it.

This week Class 8 have been writing and performing poetry. We looked at The Sound Collector and made our own versions of the poem. We used similes and metaphors to add poetic detail and Aniqa even made hers rhyme! We loved performing them and used instruments to add sound effects.
Fatima said she felt brave and confident when she performed hers for the whole class. Furqan couldn't wait to show his to us all and added actions too.
Well done to the whole class for their fantastic effort this week. You should be so proud of yourselves.
Class 8's FANTASTIC work on Black History Curriculum Week.
Date: 27th Oct 2020 @ 8:45am
During curriculum week the whole school looked at the Black History. Class 8 had studied Rosa Parks, who in 1955 travelling home on a bus, refused to stand up from her seat for a white person. This was against the law at the time and Rosa Parks was jailed and fined, however this one person’s stand ended up changing the law. We also studied Martin Luther King, who helped Rosa Parks among many to stand up for equal rights. The children took part in a variety of activities like acting out famous scenes, researching all about the life of Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, writing fact files, drawing portraits and they carried out debates about equal rights where they raised questions and discussed them.

This week Class 8's learning has focused around our topic of Great Britain. We started in the ICT suite researching facts about the countries that make up Great Britain. Our note taking skills were impressive! We wrote a fabulous introduction to a report using a range of sentence types to draw the reader in and encourage them to read more. Our Big Writes showed an understanding of the features of a non-chronological report and were exciting and interesting to read.
In maths we were learning column addition and exchanging. This challenged our maths brains but by the end we were feeling amazing as we had stretched our comfort zones. We wrote how we felt after this challenging learning on star post its. Anaya wrote 'I feel so amazing I could burst!'
