Children's Leadership Team
Greenhill Academy is committed to developing pupils as leaders in order to develop their personal and social skills. The aim is that as many pupils as possible are given the opportunity to lead regardless of their gender, ability, age or cultural background. This leadership can be found in many aspects of school life including the roles and responsibilities listed below.
Academy Council
Our Academy Council represents all pupils at Greenhill Academy with a boy and a girl elected for each class from Year 2 to Year 6.
The Academy Council plays an important role by sharing the views of their peers on changes and improvements which need to be made within the academy. Academy Councillors must be trustworthy, honest, well-mannered and patient; they are role models to others and represent the academy in a variety of different situations.
Eco-Team
The Eco-Team works extremely hard to educate pupils and their families about issues on sustainability at a local, national and global scale to develop Global Citizens. Over the last five years we have been involved in many projects from paper recycling and litter picking to promoting reduced consumption and growing our own food. Staff have also been encouraged to switch off computers, close windows and use water more efficiently.
Head Prefect and Deputy Prefect
Greenhill Academy has a head prefect and deputy prefect who are elected by the children. The main purposes of their job is to support the Principal and Senior Leadership Team in promoting and representing the academy. Their other responsibilities and tasks are to represent the academy at certain events, make speeches promoting the academy, show visitors round, support staff in assemblies and meet with and lead the Academy Council.
Prefects
Prefects are pupils elected in Year 5 ready for Year 6. These pupils are expected to act as role models to their peers by continuing to display impeccable behaviour, punctuality and attendance. One aspect of their role is to act as hosts to guests or visitors to the academy. They also have the responsibility to monitor and record pupils’ behaviour and attitude when moving through the academy.
Friendship Monitors
A boy and a girl in each class from Year 3 to Year 6 are elected to be Friendship Monitors. They are trained to support pupils in the playground with fostering friendships. One of the major aspects of their role is to welcome new pupils into the academy and to support them to establish friendships within their class.
Library Monitors
Greenhill Academy Librarians have a very important job. This position requires dedicated responsible individuals who are reliable, polite and organised.
Our librarians support groups of young children in the library; helping them find and loan books but most importantly ensuring that books are being returned on time. At the end of the year they carry out a rigorous book audit of books to ensure we do not lose too many books.
Sports Leaders and Health Ambassadors
Greenhill Academy’s Sports Leaders encourage and develop children’s confidence and self-esteem. These young leaders develop generic leadership skills that will be vital to them in other areas of life. This role allows the children to take an active role in sport and physical activities, whilst developing the self confidence that comes through taking responsibility for their own and others learning and enjoyment. Many Sports Leaders also represent the academy at a variety of sporting events around Oldham and beyond.
