This Week In Reception (WB 20.01)

Date: 23rd Jan 2025 @ 9:36am

This week in Reception, we've had a fantastic time diving into a variety of fun learning activities! Our main story was Handa’s Hen—a beautiful tale set in Africa. We’ve been working hard to retell parts of the story, using our imagination and memory. Each child had the opportunity to draw their favourite part of the story, and we’ve loved seeing how everyone has interpreted the tale through their artwork!

In maths, we focused on number bonds to 10. We used Numicon to explore the different number partners that add up to 10, helping us visualize the connections between numbers. We also used an egg carton as a ten-frame to make learning even more hands-on and fun. The children enjoyed filling the spaces and figuring out which numbers make 10, improving both their counting and number recognition skills.

As part of our exploration of Handa’s Hen, we also took a journey to Africa! We talked about the different animals that live there, such as elephants, lions, and giraffes. We also discussed what we might need to wear and take to stay comfortable in such a hot country. To bring this theme to life, the children made beautiful African-inspired bracelets and necklaces, which they were very proud of.

It’s been another wonderful week of learning and creativity, and we can't wait to see what next week brings!
