A Snowy Week in Reception!
This week in Reception, we had a magical time exploring winter, learning through stories, and having fun with numbers!
We started the week with the enchanting story One Snowy Night, where we described Percy, the kind-hearted park keeper, and his snowy adventure. The children used their imagination to bring Percy to life through their words, sharing what they thought he might be feeling and doing and describing his apperance.
In Maths, we focused on the composition of numbers to 5. The children had a blast playing games like the bean bag toss, where they counted how many bean bags they scored into the target. It was a fun way to practice counting and understand how numbers can be made up in different ways.
As the week progressed, we also looked at winter and the changes it brings. The children enjoyed learning about how animals adapt to the cold and what happens to nature during the winter months. It was a perfect opportunity to talk about snow and observe its magical transformation. We even got to experience the snow ourselves! The children were fascinated by what happens to snow when it warms up, and they enjoyed discussing it.
To keep warm after our snowy fun, we all enjoyed some hot chocolate or hot vimto – the perfect treat for a chilly winter's day!
What a wonderful week of learning and fun we’ve had!
