Nursery News: Week 4 - The Three Billy Goats Gruff
Date: 26th Nov 2024 @ 1:53pm
This week, we’ve had a wonderful time diving into the classic tale of The Three Billy Goats Gruff! The children have enjoyed exploring the story through engaging activities, storytelling, and imaginative play.
Storytelling Adventures
Using story puppets and our small world table, the children retold the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff, practicing sequencing and developing their language skills. They loved taking turns as the troll and the goats, bringing the story to life with enthusiasm.
Family Group Activities
In our family groups, we focused on:
- Rolling a dice: The children practiced identifying the numbers 1, 2, and 3 on a dice, building their early maths skills through playful learning.
- Learning pronouns: To strengthen our understanding of each other, we practiced using "he" and "she" by saying kind things about our friends. For example, "He makes me laugh" or "She shares with me." This activity encouraged social bonding and positive communication.
- Retelling with movement: The children recreated the goats crossing the bridge by hopping, skipping, and crawling, combining gross motor skills with storytelling.
- Introducing 2D shapes: We explored basic 2D shapes, such as circles, squares, and triangles, laying the foundation for geometry in a fun and hands-on way.
PSHE: Celebrating Uniqueness
Building on last week’s learning, we continued to explore similarities and differences using Is There Anyone Like Me? by Fred Strydon. The children created their own unique Okapis, adding new designs and features. Sharing their creations with friends sparked conversations about individuality and celebrating what makes each of us special.
Mark Making: Painting Billy Goats
This week’s mark-making activity was inspired by the story. The children painted the three billy goats, focusing on size by creating the BIGGEST goat, the middle-sized goat, and the smallest goat. They used real-life pictures of goats, bridges, and meadows as inspiration, practicing their observation and fine motor skills while getting creative.
Highlights of the Week
The children’s excitement for The Three Billy Goats Gruff was contagious, and it’s been a joy to see their creativity and curiosity shine through. With storytelling, art, and active play, this week has been full of memorable moments.
Thank you for supporting your children’s learning journey. We look forward to exploring more traditional tales and nursery rhymes next week!
