Nursery News: Week 2 – Taking Off with "What Do I Want to Be When I Grow Up?"
Date: 15th Jan 2025 @ 1:38pm
This week, our exciting topic “What do I want to be when I grow up?” took to the skies as we focused on aeroplanes and the fascinating roles involved in making them work. From pilots to air hostesses and engineers, the children explored the many jobs that help us take flight.
Family Group Fun
In our family groups, we had wonderful conversations about the children’s experiences of holidays, airports, and aeroplane journeys. These discussions sparked imaginative role play, where the children transformed into pilots, passengers, and even air traffic controllers. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm as they "flew" around the classroom and practiced giving safety announcements!
Communication and Language Development
This week, we shared stories and practiced using ‘what’ and ‘where’ questions to deepen our understanding of the narrative. The children demonstrated fantastic listening and speaking skills, asking questions about their favourite characters and the exciting adventures in the stories.
Maths Magic
In maths, we practiced 1:1 counting with spring-themed objects. The children worked hard to count accurately, touching each object as they counted aloud. They are building confidence in their early number skills!
Expressive Art and Design
Our creative activity this week focused on designing and creating paper aeroplanes. The children had so much fun decorating their planes with bright colours, patterns, and stickers. On Friday, we took to the “runway” and launched our aeroplanes to see how far they could fly. This activity brought so much joy and excitement to the end of our week.
Looking Ahead
It’s been an incredible week of exploration and creativity as we learned about the world of aeroplanes and the people who make flying possible. Next week, we’ll continue our journey into exciting job roles—who knows what adventures are just around the corner? ✈️✨
